With the holiday season in full swing, the Kinders have been excitedly decorating the room with a Christmas tree (donated by Krystyna! Thanks!), lights, and hand made paper ornaments.
We decided to give the children a new experience and provided them with wrapping paper, bows, empty boxes and plenty of tape to try their hand at wrapping gifts. Some children wrapped the empty boxes, some wrapped books from our library area, and some wrapped toys from around the room. At a glance this seems like just a fun activity but the Kinders were actually working on their fine motor skills with all the taping, cutting and strategic folding. This was also a great activity to enhance their social development, as they shared the supplies and talked about what they were pretending to wrap for their loved ones. Liam, for example, told me he had wrapped a brand new iphone for his mom, and another child wrapped her friends' favorite toy so she could open it up later. Parents and caregivers, take note! These kids are ready to help you wrap all the presents next year! - Jennifer
