Candy Cane Science!

The children were presented with 3 jars, one had cold water, one had warm water and the third had vinegar! Each jar has one candy cane put inside to see how different liquids would react with the candy cane! 

Predictions:

• In the cold water it’ll melt – Leo
• In the cold water it’ll melt slow – Carter
• In the cold water it’ll just stay the same – Jordan
• Nothing will happen in the cold water – Rhylee
• In the cold water it’ll freeze – Desmond
• The warm water will make it melt – Julien
• It’ll melt faster in the warm water – Liam
• It’ll melt faster in the warm water I think – Violet
• In the vinegar it’ll get soggy – Julien
• It’ll change colour in the vinegar – Avery
• The colour will fall off of the candy cane in the vinegar - Reagan

​What happened??
In the cold water:

• The colours on the candy cane stayed the same for a long time
• Water changed colour if we used the candy cane as a stir stick
• If moved from warm water to the cold water the candy cane broke

 In the warm water:

• Water changed colour faster
• The end of the candy cane got skinnier fast
• Candy cane turned white

In the vinegar:

• Water changed colour but stick stayed colourful too
• Colour swirled around in the cup if mixed
