This week the kids of Pine Tree group have taken on the challenge of bringing Canada's favourite sport into Dawn and Dusk! A couple of children decided to build a hockey rink and picked famous NHL teams to play as! The entirety of the Pine Tree group took part in making this hockey game possible after seeing how cool the rink looked. Kids took roles as commentators, spectators, and referees. The hockey rink was truly incredible, the children took puzzle piece foam mats, pylons, and benches to create their rink. So much effort, creativity and details were put into their project there were penalty boxes, spectators benches and a team bench! When the kids finished building their rink and were ready for game time, the children tried to make their game as close to a real life hockey game as possible. As game time approached, the children were trying to decide amongst themselves who would be their guest singer for the national anthem. When an educator asked if they wanted the national anthem played on the speakers, all of our hockey players shouted with excitement and stood up and bowed their heads for the playing of Oh Canada. This hockey experience carried on into the next week, and the following week's hockey game involved a very special surprise guest singer, one brilliant Pine Tree child volunteered to sing the national anthem before game time began! The children showed so much excitement and team work to make this game possible! Pine Trees will definitely be doing more hockey in the future! -Carmen
