On this Morning February 21, 2019 there was a lot of different playing going on. The children were ordering and serving food, others were playing with the babies. A game of Monopoly was also happening and staff were drawing with the children. In one morning there can be many different things happening.

Some of the kids have been pretty focused on board games and card games lately, so we've started a Gaming Table Club for them! Once a week the art area table will be used for gaming, and the kids are invited to bring their favorite games from home OR choose one from the Dawn & Dusk collection. On our first Game Day the usual favorites were brought out, but Sophia (grade 2) brought her Kerplunk from home to share with everyone! We had a lot of fun, thanks for bringing in something new, Sophia!
- Jen After what felt like months of extra cold weather, things finally warmed up enough for us to get outside! After gathering some veggie scraps and leftover popcorn & cereal that our kitchen staff Sarah K put aside for us, we gathered some muffin tins and cake pans to head outside and make "Nature Cakes" for the wildlife that frequent our backyard here at John de Graff. After that we spent some much needed time reconnecting with the snow and fresh air.
- Jen and Chantal There's nothing like starting the day off with an exciting game of broom ball. We get into teams and set off on a friendly back and forth adventure trying to reach that ultimate goal...the back of the net kind of goal. It provides quite a thrill as each player makes their way up and down the floor wondering who will score next. Line Change! - Andrew
Since puppets have been so popular in the Film Room, I brought in different materials for the children to create their own! There was paper bags, socks, gloves, popsicle sticks, googly eyes, felt pieces, markers, pom-poms and more. The children created their own puppets and then a few of them had an idea to make a background for their puppet show. Once everything was done, they took turns putting on puppet shows for the rest of the Film Room. -Sara Mac
The Building & Construction area was a very busy place this past week. Whether it's boarding the imagination train to far away lands or building unique dance techniques, there is something for everyone. Toys from home Friday is also still a favorite as building materials can be added to each toy to create a further play experience. Houses for dolls or garages for cars are just a few examples of this. We can't wait to see where our next stop will take us. All Aboard! - Andrew
In the Film Room, puppet shows have been very popular. The children get into groups, pick their puppets from our collection in the Kinder Room, and rehearse. Once they have rehearsed, we turn the lights down and they perform for each other. This helps the children work on their social skills by working and collaborating together in groups and being able to perform in front of an audience.
