Hello! My name is Kristy and I am one of the 3 amazing Educators that will be planning for and caring for Club 4/5 this year. This year has begun with a bang! We have already offered a number of fun and exciting experiences both before and after school, and we have many more planned. On one beautiful morning, one of our Educators planned a scavenger hunt for Club 4/5 to participate in. The children ran excitedly from the educator posted outside of the Main Forest, where they got clues, to find the items, then back to the forest to investigate for the treasures. This activity was such a success that before we knew it they had found all of the hidden items! They asked to do it again, to have more items to search for, and for harder clues to find the items. I see more challenges like this one in our future! We will definitely find time to do another scavenger hunt soon. After the scavenger hunt we saw some interesting play involving sticks from the forest floor. A few of our older children found massive sticks that were 15 feet long. They stood one of them upright and speculated how tall it was compared to some of our educators, compared them to other sticks, and even managed to play with some of them. Other children traded smaller sticks within the forest while a group had a mock battle outside of the forest. At one point almost all of Club 4/5 had a stick in their hand and were using them in different and unique ways. I love this interest in natural materials and the creative ways we can use them in play. This opens up the door for many future activities including sticks and the nature around us. Some of these activities include wand making, staff making, nature art, bows and arrows and so much more! I look forward to seeing what kind of play the children come up with next!
