The Lady Bug group has recently kicked off a project on Performing. I brought in a few books about all different types of musical instruments. The children got to look through these books and the idea of making our own instruments came up. We gathered materials such as boxes, paper towel rolls and much more to start creating. They made drums and shakers. Next, they wanted to set up a stage so they put one together in the block area. We all sang to "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" for about half an hour and then we moved on to "We Will Rock You." Who knows where this project will take us next? Stay tuned!

The Caterpillar group has embarked on a project about our bodies. We started off by creating a recipe of a body. The children had the opportunity to draw a body part or two on a big piece of paper. Next we labelled the body parts and it is now hung up outside our room. Make sure to check it out. Next, I brought in a prop box filled with bandages, scrubs, stethoscopes, caps, surgical masks, slings and more to help extend the children's play. They set up a doctors office, waiting room and x-ray lab in the room so far. Their waiting room seems to be filled with patients who have broken limbs and the flu. The children had a few questions about going to the hospital so I decided to bring in a special guest. Jen is a nurse who also happens to be a parent of a child in the program. She came in to talk to the children about her job and what she does. She brought in her doll and showed the children how she helps other children at the hospital. We are very grateful to have had Jen come in to talk to the children. It inspired the children even more. Thanks Jen! To celebrate the end of I Love to Read Month we traveled to the Burton Cummings Theatre to be part of "I Love To Read Live" that was hosted by Virgin Radio Winnipeg. We danced, we met a few local celebrities, we watched them perform stories and danced some more. In February, both groups of children had the chance to visit the Millennium Library. We joined story time, ate our lunches and explored the library. Check out our photos from the trip. February was an extremely cold month so we decided to bring the outdoors, inside! We ventured outside for a few minutes to collect as much snow as we could and brought it inside. The children got the idea to add color to the snow. We brought out water colors and let the children explore the snow with the color. This went on for such a long time that the snow ended up melting pretty quick. Take a look at the photos below. The Lady Bug group loved bringing in their favourite books from home during the month of February. Check out their top picks! |
