During part of last week and this week, an educator put out some provocations using different items or materials to spell out words for the Maple Tree group. One day in the Film room, the educator spelled out a word using the dominos. That morning, one child walked in, saw it on the stairs and said, "What does that say?" The educator said, " Sound it out." The child yelled, "BOO!"
A couple of days later, the educator noticed a child took the dominos and began to spell out a word. The child wrote "Mel" for their favorite educator. They were so proud of themself while they waited for that educator to see it.
Then another child used the dominos after and spelled out two longer different short sentences. One was" Knock, Knock English" and "Super Simple Learning."
The next day, two educators both spelled out two different words using different toys. One child stopped in their tracks to see what it was when they went to grab another toy that interested them. One educator spelled the word "COOL !" out of big plus plus and the other one wrote "Well Done" using Lego.
One child wrote "Mel"(with a heart) which made the educator have a huge smile on their face when they read it. Inspired by what they saw, two educators made words of a child's name and of their name.
I am glad to see that these words have peeked their interest. I think the Maple Tree group may have a new ritual to keep up!
